Singapore fail to advance to YOG football finals...Haïti passe en finale
Singapore missed the chance to advance to the YOG men's under-15 football finals, after it lost 0-2 to Haiti at Jalan Besar stadium tonight. Haiti took the lead at half-time, scoring its first goal against Singapore at the 37th minute via a header by Haitian player Jean Bonhomme.
Singapore missed several opportunities in the first half, with its last effort in the 30th minute palmed away to safety by the goal-keeper.
A second goal was scored by Haiti in the second half through a penalty shot, as a result of a foul on a Haitian player within the penalty box in the 40th minute.
The foul led to a red card and sending off of a Singapore player, and the host nation was down to 10 men for the last five minutes of the game.
After the final whistle was blown, the Cubs looked despondent at the missed opportunity, while the Haitian players celebrated on the pitch.
The Haitian team came into the match as underdogs, after a devastating first game defeat, where they lost 0-9 to Bolivia.
Singapore will battle it out against Montenegro for the bronze medal on Wednesday, while Haiti will advance to meet Bolivia again, in the finals.
