Haitian choir sings in Hollis on Sunday

HOLLIS — Sixteen girls and boys from Haiti, singing and dancing in a high energy, meaningful concert, will perform at the Faith Baptist Church of Hollis, 43 Wheeler Road, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17.
The Hope Haitian Choir , in its third year, is focused on sharing the joy of the Lord in such a way that many who hear have their lives positively changed, PROMOTERS said.
The tour includes presentations in New England, New York and New Jersey, as well as concerts in Haiti when the choir returns.
Each year, new members are brought to the United States after training and rehearsals in Haiti, ready to inspire with their enthusiasm and genuine faith.
The choir has its roots in the adoption of a Haitian baby by founders Barb and Chuck House. After several years of involvement in projects connected with the orphanage in Port-au-Prince, the first choir was organized in 2012.
Mrs. House, a music teacher and performer, directs the choir, writing and choreographing many of the songs.
Goals for the choir include developing young leaders who will return to their people, better equipped to make a productive impact.
Also, the couple’s hope is to encourage each child to realize the potential which God has placed in him/her.
Each year, the choir attempts to raise support for a key project in Haiti, which will benefit many. This tour is focused on building a church and school on land recently purchased in the village of Lamarre, Haiti, through which the choir hopes to bring an international sponsorship program to this impoverished region.
