RIZ KHAN: Wyclef Jean the next president of Haiti?

Years after Wyclef Jean released If I Was President, the hip-hop megastar may soon discover just how difficult it can be to lead a nation.

As a candidate for Haiti's presidency, Jean has pledged to expand education and employment while rebuilding the country's infrastructure.
So far his campaign has met with more criticism than praise.
Some feel his celebrity status would keep international attention on the nation's development needs.
Critics say he lacks the experience and political vision necessary to be president.
They also argue that, as a long-time resident of New Jersey, he does not meet the constitutional residency requirements.
On Wednesday's Riz Khan we speak with Haiti's ambassador-at-large Wyclef Jean and ask: Can a pop star really lead Haiti forward? Harry Fouche, former Consul General of Haiti in New York also joins us.
You can join the conversation. Call in with your questions and comments on Wednesday, August 11, at our live time of 1630GMT. Repeats air at 2130GMT, and the next day at 0230GMT and 1130GMT.
